Anora
Sean Baker's Anora already won the Palme d'Or at Cannes, and now the movie can get an Oscar. The film follows an eventful few weeks in the life of Ani, a stripper who marries Ivan, a young son of a Russian oligarch.We spend much of Anora with an ever-growing hole in the pit of our stomachs, waiting for the inevitable. Of course, there come people to put an end to this marriage: an Armenian priest who works as the eyes and ears of Ivan’s parents in New York, a burly, bearded guy, and the sullen, watchful Igor (Yuriy Borisov). Yuriy Borisov, by the way, is the first Russian to be nominated in the category of Best Supporting Actor.

The Brutalist
An Adrien Brody-starring tale of a Hungarian architect and Holocaust survivor building a new future in the US.
